A laboratory freeze dryer is used to dry substances without any heating involved. This is required for certain sensitive materials that can be denatured or partially destroyed due to heating. For them, drying from a frozen condition without any thawing is required. A pharmaceutical freeze dryer can achieved exactly this. It is a high end and specialized lab equipment that needs special care to be made and used.
How freeze drying works?
In freeze drying, the mechanism works based on sublimation. Thus, the water vapor involved in a substance that is required to be removed is converted into gaseous or vapor state without passing through the liquid phase. In doing so, the use of heat can be avoided. As a result, many such materials that would otherwise be damaged, like specialized pharmaceutical drugs and medicines, can be saved from being denatured.
This mechanism is a special one and generally does not occur naturally. Thus, special equipment is needed for the process, and the pharmaceutical freeze dryer is deployed for the same. The freeze dryer that are available here have certain special aspects that make them different from the rest. They are made user friendly as well as non-polluting to the nature with CFC/HCFC free refrigerant system. They have inherent cooling and heating system with temperature control.
They are also made out of stainless steel with mirror polish in order to insulate from the outside heat. There is water cooling control as well as vacuum pressure control provided to the devices for efficient working. The digital auto-controlled PID display helps in ensuring proper control of temperature with high accuracy. The temperature range for operation is -50OC to -80OC. The water capture capability also varies from 10 kg to 1000 kg in 24 hours.
Pilot model for freeze dryer
A unique variant of the laboratory freeze dryer is the pilot model offered. It us not only small in size and capacity but some of the features are also different from the main equipment. But due to its frugality in size and operation, it is often preferred by some users than the full-fledged model. The pilot version comes with standard operating procedure in automatic top press mode. It is mostly suitable for pharma industry but also finds extensive usage in food and medicine industries. It operates on in-situ freeze drying technology, and its design in of international standard, ensuring that any contamination during material transfer is avoided.
The pilot model is available with rack heating arrangement. It operates with a programmable function and memory freeze-drying curve. It is offered in two varieties- the standard and the gland types. Like the original product, the pilot model is also used for various industries that include biological products, pharmaceuticals, food, human and animal cell preservation, antibiotics, bacteria, serum related industries etc.
